PERRY FARM KITE FESTIVAL

The 9th Perry Farm Kite Festival is almost here. Join us at the Perry Farm Park on August 15th & 16th, 2009 for some fun family kite flying, demonstrations and activities. Let's all hope for clear skies and a light breeze again will provide families with ideal kite flying conditions.

Festival festivities included team kiting demonstrations, kids candy drop, fairly fun drop with goodies for the whole family, kite raffle, bounce house, kite vendors and concessions.

Special thanks goes out to all of the sponsors who made this event a success! We also thank the dedicated volunteers and kiters whose help was greatly appreciated. We could not have had such a wonderful event without them!

This unique event is ALL FUN. Some of America's best kite-fliers and kite-builders will be here to compete and entertain. You'll see kites that defy description, kites dancing to music, and fighting kites.

FAMILY FUN FLYING
There is plenty of space for you to fly your own kites. Bring your kite, make a kite or buy a kite from the Kite Harbor Kite shop. Please remember to be safe when flying by staying away from power lines and keep an eye out for other kite flyers.

Again this year we will have the benefit of the Kite Hospital sponsored by Microtek. This will be located near the public flying field and they will help you to repair your kite and also to assemble a kite.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
With so much to do and so many ways to participate, we hope that you will take time to enjoy all that we have in store for you. We encourage you to visit the Exploration Station, a children's museum on-site with 10,000 square feet of hands on exhibits. Admission fees are $5.00 and under per person with children under 12 months are free. Buy a kite at the Kite Harbor kite store and fly it or a raffle ticket for a chance to win a great kite. Be a Rokkaku cheerleader or jump for a while on our Bamboo Bouncer. If you decide that you need a break from all the kiting action, take a walk, bike or roller blade on one of the Perry Farm's trails along the historic Kankakee River.

SPORT KITE COMPETITION
The Perry Farm Kite Festival is an AKA-sanctioned Midwest Conference sport kite competition with events for Novice, Experienced and Masters classes. New kiters will be able to become American Kitefliers Association member at the festival. Ann Vondriska Brinnehl, who has been a part of the Perry Farm Kite Festival since its inception will be seated as chief judge of the competition. The competition categories are below.

To register in advance please click here for printable registration form. Late Registration is taken on site at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16th, 2009. Registration tent is on the field just south of the museum parking lot. Pilots' Meeting at 10:00 a.m. at AKA pit tent.
